|State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi Had a Phone Call with Malaysia's New Foreign Minister Hishammuddin Hussein|
On 11 March, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi took a phone call from Malaysia's new Foreign Minister Hishammuddin Hussein.
Hishammuddin said that the relationship with China is very important for the new government of Malaysia. China is Malaysia's trusted brother and friend. Malaysia will work with China to further strengthen the comprehensive strategic partnership and take bilateral relations to a new level. Malaysia congratulates China on its great progress in dealing with the COVID-19 outbreak. Malaysia is confident that China will overcome the epidemic soon and ready to share experience and strengthen cooperation with China in addressing the epidemic.
Wang congratulated Hishammuddin on his appointment as Minister of Foreign Affairs. He noted that China is seeing encouraging progress across the country in controlling the epidemic, which has come as a result of extraordinary response effort. We are confident that the battle against the outbreak will be won at an early date. As comprehensive strategic partners and countries representing emerging economies, China and Malaysia share ever-growing converging interests. We need to intensify high-level exchanges, deepen strategic communication, and leverage our complementarities for stronger all-round mutually beneficial cooperation. This will contribute to both countries' development and rejuvenation.
Wang said that the world is undergoing changes of a kind rarely seen in a century. While the development of emerging economies is speeding up, multilateral institutions are under attack from rising unilateralism and the return of power politics. As responsible countries and each other's important partners, China and Malaysia must work together to uphold the international system built around the United Nations, the international order underpinned by international law, and the WTO-centered multilateral trading regime. China firmly supports Malaysia in hosting this year's APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting, and is ready to work with Malaysia for a meeting that will reenergize growth in the Asia-Pacific and the world.
