2020-02-07

On February 7, 2020, President Xi Jinping exchanged congratulatory messages with Colombian President Iván Duque Márquez on the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations.

In his message, Xi Jinping noted, since the establishment of diplomatic relations 40 years ago, China and Colombia have deepened political mutual trust and practical cooperation and maintained a positive momentum of development in bilateral relations on the principles of mutual respect, mutual benefit and joint development. In July 2019, President Iván Duque Márquez paid a successful state visit to China, during which we reached important consensus through candid and friendly communication, injecting new impetus into the long-term development of China-Colombia relations. I attach great importance to China-Colombia relations, and stand ready to work with President Iván Duque Márquez to take the 40th anniversary as a new starting point to advance bilateral relations into a new historical stage.

In his message, Iván Duque Márquez said, during my state visit to China last year, President Xi Jinping and I reached a series of new consensuses, which injected new impetus into bilateral friendly cooperation in the political, economic, social and cultural fields. I highly appreciate and I am sincerely grateful for China's important contributions to Colombia's economic and social development through bilateral cooperation. On behalf of the Colombian people, I reiterate my willingness to continue to work with President Xi Jinping to chart the course for the development of bilateral relations in the next 40 years, so as to lift bilateral relations to new levels for the benefit of both peoples.
