|State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi Speaks to Thai Foreign Minister Don Pramudwinai on the Phone|
On 4 February, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi had a phone call with Foreign Minister Don Pramudwinai of Thailand.
Foreign Minister Don expressed Thailand's support for China's response to the novel coronavirus outbreak. He stressed that Thailand would stand with the people of China during this difficult time, and expressed confidence that China would soon overcome the current difficulty and bring the situation back to normal. He said that Thailand would do its best to support China.
State Councilor Wang thanked Thailand for its firm support and supplies. He noted that China and Thailand are brothers and that whenever one side is in difficulty, the other will do its best to help. China and ASEAN countries had prevailed over major challenges together, like the SARS outbreak and the Indian Ocean tsunami. Such unity and cooperation will again tide us over the current difficulty. Out of a strong sense of responsibility for its own citizens and for the rest of the world, China has mobilized nationwide efforts to fight the epidemic through the most comprehensive and rigorous measures. They go well beyond what is required by WHO recommendations. China's response so far has been commended by WHO, many governments and the international community. The prevention and control measures are working: the case fatality rate is kept under 2.1 percent, far lower than that of other epidemics hitting the world; cured cases have exceeded fatal ones by a significant margin; and the increase of suspected cases has slowed down. We have the capacity and confidence to win this battle.
Wang also expressed China's commitment to stay actively engaged in international health cooperation with openness and transparency. As Thailand's close neighbor and friend, China will continue to care for the Thai nationals in China like its own.
