Wang Yi Holds Talks with French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian

On October 21, 2019 local time, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi held talks with French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian in Paris.

Wang Yi said, President Xi Jinping's successful state visit to France in March this year has strongly promoted the development of China-France relations. The two countries have deepened political mutual trust, scored new achievements in practical cooperation in various fields and had more effective communication and coordination in international affairs. The Chinese side attaches great importance to and welcomes President Emmanuel Macron's visit to China and his attendance at the second China International Import Expo. The Chinese side is ready to cooperate with the French side to make full preparation for a successful and fruitful visit. It is believed that the second meeting between the two heads of state this year will provide new strategic guidance for and inject new impetus of cooperation into China-France relations.

Wang Yi said, as permanent members of the United Nations Security Council, China and France bear special and important responsibilities for world peace, stability and prosperity. The two sides should uphold multilateralism, promote an open world economy, enhance coordination and cooperation on international and regional affairs, and provide more positive energy for the world today.

Jean-Yves Le Drian said, the French side stands ready to take President Emmanuel Macron's visit to China as an important opportunity to jointly plan exchanges and cooperation with the Chinese side in various fields in the next stage. Under the new circumstances, France and China should strengthen communication and coordination on major international and regional issues and jointly practice multilateralism. The French side welcomes investment from Chinese companies in France and is willing to provide a fair and non-discriminatory business environment for Chinese companies and companies of other countries.

Both sides also exchanged in-depth views on international and regional issues of common concern.
