Wang Yi: Comments on Xinjiang and Hong Kong Issues Must Be Based on Facts

On September 26, 2019 local time, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi said in an interview at request with Reuters at the Chinese Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York that any comment on issues related to China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region and Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) must be based on facts and the Chinese side does not accept any groundless criticism.

Wang Yi said, China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region has not had any violent incident over the three years since preventive counter-terrorism and de-radicalization measures were taken. People of all ethnic groups in Xinjiang, including the Uygur people, applaud the achievement. The achievement is worthy of compliment. People should not turn a blind eye to the fact and make irresponsible remarks.

As for Hong Kong, the problem now is that some rioters have been seriously violating the rule of law and frantically destroying public facilities. All parties should support the HKSAR government in stopping violence and restoring the rule of law as soon as possible, instead of sending out wrong signals to make the criminals more reckless and unscrupulous. This is the objective as well as a just approach.
