|Wang Yi Meets with Foreign Minister Kang Kyung-wha of the Republic of Korea (ROK)|
On September 25, 2019 local time, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Foreign Minister Kang Kyung-wha of the Republic of Korea (ROK) on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
Wang Yi expressed, the current China-ROK relations are developing well under the guidance of the two heads of state. The Chinese side stands ready to work with the ROK side to advance bilateral relations to a higher level. It is hoped that the two sides will accelerate the alignment of development strategies of both countries, jointly explore third-party markets and speed up the second phase of China-ROK free trade agreement negotiation. Both countries should enhance coordination and cooperation under the multilateral framework, and deepen people-to-people and cultural engagement in the Winter Olympics Games, youth, exchanges at local level and in other areas. The two sides should continue to properly handle sensitive issues and eliminate disturbance for the healthy development of bilateral relations.
Kang Kyung-wha expressed her congratulations on the 70th founding anniversary of the People's Republic of China. She said, under the current circumstances, it is crucial for the ROK and China to maintain close communication on bilateral relations and regional situation. The ROK side hopes to further enhance bilateral practical cooperation in various areas, confirm the specific alignment of the Chinese side's Belt and Road Initiative and the ROK's development strategy, and actively conduct trilateral cooperation.
The two sides also exchanged views on the current Korean Peninsula situation.
