On April 12, 2018, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi met in Beijing with Special Envoy of President and Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan of Indonesia.
Wang Yi welcomed Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan to visit China as Special Envoy of President Joko Widodo, and expressed that under the care and guidance of the two heads of state, China and Indonesia have actively integrated development strategies and scored remarkable achievements from practical cooperation in recent years. Indonesia is a major country in the region with global influence. China has always viewed and promoted bilateral relations from a strategic height. This year coincides with the 5th anniversary of the establishment of comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries. Both sides should, on this basis, take the joint construction of the “Belt and Road”, the promotion of regional integration process and the building of a new type of international relations as three striving directions to further enrich the connotation of bilateral comprehensive strategic partnership as well as define the key direction of mutually beneficial cooperation in the future. China is willing to make joint efforts with Indonesia to well prepare high-level exchanges within this year, steadily advance the construction of the Jakarta-Bandung High-speed Railway and actively discuss conducting the cooperation in the Regional Comprehensive Economic Corridors, so as to further expand mutually beneficial and win-win results.
Wang Yi expressed that this year marks the 15th anniversary of the establishment of strategic partnership between China and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) as well as the China-ASEAN Year of Innovation. China is willing to make joint efforts with Indonesia to push for the improvement and upgrade of China-ASEAN relations and strengthen cooperation with East ASEAN Growth Area, in a bid to inject fresh impetus into the building of the ASEAN community and the ASEAN integration process.
Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan stated that Indonesia and China are natural cooperative partners. Indonesia attaches great importance to China-Indonesia relations, appreciates China’s adherence to following the path of peaceful development, supports the “Belt and Road” initiative and welcomes China to play an increasingly important role in the region and the international realm. Indonesia stands ready to, together with China, well implement the consensus of the two heads of state, reinforce high-level exchanges, make in-depth integration of “Global Maritime Axis” idea with the “Belt and Road” initiative and well implement landmark projects such as Jakarta-Bandung High-speed Railway and the Regional Comprehensive Economic Corridors, so as to bring greater well-being to the two countries and the region.
